If I had to circulate an important load around the world, I would entrust it to Commendatore Giacinto Chiesa, Sole Administrator of Italmondo Spa. Truly. Because when he speaks of his company, today international leader in the sector of transportation and logistics, Mr. Chiesa exudes confidence , and one feels he can be fully trusted. A type of trust which together with care for detail, punctuality and precision, [...] Numbers which give an idea of how Italmondo is currently the point of reference insofar as international land, sea and air shipments and integrated logistics. And speaking of logistics, it is the major strength of the company , even though Mr. Chiesa confessed that greater effort needs to be made in this sector: “It is important to coordinate and manage everything well and to invest a lot of money in this sector”. Today, fifty years after its establishment, Italmondo plans to increase the floor space of its warehouse by 2006, from the current 150.000 sqm to over 200.000 both in Italy and abroad to meet the requirements of many clients in terms of logistics. Mr. Chiesa still has the same type of enthusiasm and the same grit he had back then and has no intention of leaving work for a well deserved break: “ I abhor pension”, he clearly told us, showing us his plans to open a new warehouse in Lyon. Currently, Italmondo has seven branches in Italy, of which three are in Milan where there is also the Head office and Administration Division: shortly, the company should move to Lainate to a space which is logistically more suitable to the activity. And soon new branches will be opened in Paris and Lyon which will be added to the ones already running in Belgium and France. But what secret hides behind this Milanese gentleman who today looks more towards the future than back to the past? “Health, brains, and good will,” he replied, only fortunately briefly complaining about a little back ache. “It is important to feel good in life, make your brains function and feel the will to work”. On closing this interview I asked Mr. Chiesa for a drop of wisdom “stolen” from that life, love and work experience which he can rightly be proud of. “ What advice would I give an up and coming lad? I would suggest he roll up his sleeves and do only what satisfies him and not to become what he is not : if you are happy with what you’re doing, then you will be successful”.
